Selected Works
The majority of my work is made of iridescent glass which has a black glass base.I use a sandblaster to carve designs in the iridescent coating which exposes the black underlayment glass, resulting in a black design on the piece. The more simplistic designs (lines, squares, waves, etc.) are hand carved, and the more intricate designs are achieved through a specialized process called photo resist which allows me to "transfer" a black and white image onto the glass. I also like to add texture to many of my pieces by “tack fusing” glass elements such as small balls or squares. Tack fusing is the process of firing a piece hot enough to “fuse” the glass element onto the plate, but not too hot to melt the embellishment totally into the plate.
Mosaic: My mosaic designs are geometric in nature. Angular shapes cut from different pieces of glass are combined in an endless variety so that every piece is totally unique. I also like to sandblast geometric and more flowing designs on the fired piece to add interest.
Celtic: Celtic art is from Ireland and usually includes intricate knots, spirals, animals and repeated patterns. They are interwoven and are endlessly fascinating.
Asian-inspired: These designs evoke a feeling of the Far East either subtly through the choice of subject or more obviously as in the use of Kanji symbols.
Jewelry: I use a specialized glass called dichroic which has an outstanding luminescence and brightness of color.
Tlingit Northwest Tribe Designs: The Tlingit are an Indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest Coast. Their name for themselves is Lingít meaning "human beings." The Tlingit are a matrilineal society that developed a complex hunter-gatherer culture in the temperate rainforest of the southeast Alaska coast and the Alexander Archipelago. An inland subgroup, known as the Inland Tlingit, inhabits the far northwestern part of the province of British Columbia and the southern Yukon Territory of Canada. Tlingit society is divided into two moieties, the Raven and the Eagle. These in turn are divided into numerous clans that are subdivided into lineages or house groups. These groups have heraldic crests, that are displayed on totem poles, canoes, feast dishes, house posts, weavings, jewelry, and other art forms.
Awards: The technique that I use for sandblasting designs onto iridescent glass lends itself well to high-end awards.
